Markowitz for Governor Releases “A Decade of Service”
MONTPELIER—Secretary of State Deb Markowitz launched a media campaign today to highlight her track record in office and her unique brand of leadership as her campaign for governor continues to gain momentum. The video was released to campaign supporters by email and asks each of them to send the video on to other Vermonters as a sign of grassroots support.
“I love Vermont,” Markowitz said in the video. “Our people are so innovative and hardworking. We have so much going for us. We need to take those assets and really work with them.”
The video introduction, which can be viewed at www.youtube.com/debforvermont, emphasizes Markowitz’s effective governing and innovative thinking as Secretary of State.
The video tells the dramatic story of Jack and Jodie Leonard, their daughter Danielle and how Markowitz impacted their lives and helped create the “Safe Haven Law” for children.
The video includes testimonials from former Governor Madeleine Kunin, Burlington businesswoman Melinda Moulton, businessman Roger Kohn, farmer Howard Mitchell and Amy Messina, who Markowitz worked with to create the Safe At Home Program in Vermont that protects victims of domestic violence.
The release of the video comes after the most recent campaign finance disclosure period in which Markowitz outdistanced the entire field of candidates. This was followed by incumbent Governor Jim Douglas’ announcement that he will not seek re-election.
Markowitz became Vermont’s 37th Secretary of State in 1998 after defeating a two-term incumbent, and most recently was re-elected with 72 percent of the vote. She and her husband Paul live in Montpelier with their three children.
