Markowitz for Governor Announces Campaign Manager

Montpelier--Secretary of State Deb Markowitz announced Paul Tencher, a native New Englander and campaign veteran, will manage her campaign for governor. Markowitz said Tencher's experience at the state and federal level will be an asset to win the governorship and provide the quality leadership Vermont needs.

"Vermont faces difficult challenges that call for a leader with a proven record of solving problems. I'm running for governor because, as a community, we can make job creation and innovation a priority," Markowitz said. "Our campaign will be powered by the people of Vermont and Paul has the experience to organize the team we need to succeed."

Tencher has managed campaigns and served as a senior aide both in government and on the campaign trail. He most recently served as communications director for U.S. Rep. Mary Jo Kilroy (OH-15) and in the same capacity on State Representative Judy Baker’s congressional race in northeast Missouri in2008.

Previously, he served as chief of staff to Rhode Island Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts and successfully managed her campaign for the post in2006.  Roberts is the highest ranking female elected official in state history and beat a well-funded, and popular Republican candidate, by a 20-point margin.

Tencher also served as spokesperson for Rhode Island Secretary of State Matt Brown and worked for the public affairs firm, Vision Strategies. Tencher has managed state legislative campaigns in southern New Jersey and began his career as the deputy press secretary for Dr. Anne Sumers for Congress in northern New Jersey.  Tencher is a Rhode Island native and graduate of Seton Hall University in New Jersey.
